Two-Plane Dynamic Balancing: How to Balance a Fan impeller and Blower
Before we discuss HOW to balance a fan, it is critical to explain WHY we perform Dynamic Balancing. Please note that to improve the performance and maintenance of your fans, it is necessary to balance the wheel in a single or two-plane balance setup, either onsite or in-shop. This procedure will help reduce vibration which, could lead to machine failure.
Measuring Amplitude against frequency
The first step for balancing a fan Impeller and blower is to measure the initial vibration by placing a transducer closest to the bearing (Check for best positioning of vibration transducers on bearing point). Readings can be seen on a Vibration Spectrum report. If the Overall amplitude of vibration exceeds published industry standards for the class of machine and 1X component exceeds 80% of the overall value, then an unbalance condition is most likely the root of the problem.
